Collaborative Design Tools

It's been rewarding working in design and branding for over three decades, and I find it exciting to see all of the changes and new tools that have evolved over the years.

One of my favorite new tools/software is Canva. It allows Indigo Creative to create and maintain quality design while collaborating with clients who are empowered to make real-time edits and updates themselves.

Below are some of the features and benefits that I've seen for my clients using Canva and the custom brand kits and templates that we've created for them.

Canva—A powerful marketing tool

Indigo Creative has fully embraced Canva as a powerful collaborative marketing tool. More importantly, Indigo Creative is helping our clients embrace Canva by creating custom brand kits, designing templates, and helping train internal teams on how to get up and running quickly with Canva.
Who can benefit from working in Canva?
  • Marketing teams, social media teams, HR teams, and sales teams
  • Companies and organizations of any size
How is Canva different from Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace?
  • Canva is browser-based so that teams can make real-time changes to an organic/living document, (Currently, Adobe Creative Cloud is not browser-based.)
  • Canva has robust design capabilities, with tools to create and edit vector and continuous-tone visuals. (Microsoft Office and Google Workspace are limited in their abilities when it comes to design, layout, and visuals.)
  • Canva is user-friendly, cost-effective, highly collaborative, and has a robust and growing set of design tools. These include social media tools, brand kits, illustration, photography, video, AI-generated visuals and content, etc. They are expanding into the email campaign market, CRM market, and internal project management market.

Adobe, Microsoft, and Google all have great tools that we will continue to use for Indigo Creative and our clients:
  • Adobe products are great for print, high-resolution detail, and color accuracy (especially Pantone). And it is the go-to for multi-page documents, precise visual editing, video creation, and many more tools.
  • Google Slides and Microsoft PowerPoint are ideal for presentations. Google and Microsoft work well for collaborative documents and files when there is complex content and accounting.
What new product offerings does Canva have in store for the future?
  • It is interesting to see what Canva has planned. They are already incorporating tools for email campaigns and CRM, and they offer print-on-demand for marketing collateral (which is ideal for short runs and quick turnaround). They have partnered with Affinity, which is a browser-based competitor to Adobe Creative Cloud.

How can Indigo Creative help your company utilize Canva?

Indigo Creative has found that our clients are especially happy to have control over their own design files and assets, as well as to have the ability to edit and iterate themselves. This allows for timely turnarounds and cost-effective use of Indigo Creative's design time.

Below are a few of the ways that Indigo Creative can help set up a bespoke set of templates and tools within Canva for your team to easily utilize.
